First Class Emphasis (FCE) Day is a program designed for first-year Scouts. Colonneh Lodge, Order of the Arrow, is hosting FCE Day. Scouts can work on Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class rank requirements.

Individual Scouts are welcome to attend for the day. Troops can camp Saturday night.

Tentative Program

The program will be run in a round-robin style. Troops are encouraged to provide at least one adult to support the program.

Scouts will be given an opportunity to work on these skills (tentative plan):

  • Tenderfoot: 1c, 3a-c, 4a-c, 5a-c, 6a-b, 7a, 8
  • Second Class: 1b, 1e, 2f-g, 3a-b, 6b, 7c, 8a-b, 9a-b,
  • First Class: 3a-d, 5a-d, 7a-c, 9a-b

Instructors will not sign off on the requirements taught; instead, the event staff will provide a document for each participant that reflects the requirements taught and tested. The Scout will then need to demonstrate the skills learned to their Scout leader. After demonstrating proficiency in each skill the Scoutmaster or designee will then sign off the requirements in the Scout Handbook and Scoutbook.

8:00 am Troops arrive and set up campsitee
8:30 am Individual Scouts arrive
9:00 am Morning program
12:00 pm Lunch in Dining Hall
1:00 pm Afternoon program
5:00 pm Individual Scouts depart
5:30 pm Troop dinner in Dining Hall

Sunday

8:00 am Troop Breakfast in Dining Hall
10:00 am Troops Depart

What to Bring

  • Eat breakfast before arrival.
  • Copy of a current Annual Health and Medical Record 
    (Part A & B for all Scouting events) 
  • Activity uniform
  • Water bottle
  • Clothing appropriate for the weather
  • Rain gear
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Personal medications in original containers in a ziplock bag marked with the Scout's name (prescription and over-the-counter meds must be listed on the medical form)

Advancement Report

Rank advancements have to be entered manually into Scoutbook. To pull an advancement report:

  • Go to https://scoutingevent.com/000/Login/ 
  • Click on profile name (top right)
  • Click on View Activity (tab: Summer Camp & Activities)
  • Select the activity
  • Click on Reports Tab
  • ⇒ Unit Advancement Summary: summarizes all advancements completed at camp  (e.g., merit badges, rank advancements)
    ⇒ Unit Advancement Detail: list of all advancements completed at camp in a grid  (one page per Scout)

Scouting Safely

Safety is Your Responsibility posterScouting America's Commitment to Safety is ongoing and we want you to know that the safety of our youth, volunteers, staff, and employees cannot be compromised. Scouting America puts the utmost importance on the safe and healthy environments for its youth membership. The Sam Houston Area Council takes great strides to ensure the safety of its youth as well as the adult volunteer leadership that interacts with them. 

Scouting America Guide to Safe Scouting policies must be followed. All participants must follow Youth Protection Guidelines at all Scouting events. Highlights include:

  • Two-deep leadership on all outings required.
  • One-on-one contact between adults and youth members is prohibited.
  • The buddy system should be used at all times.
  • Discipline must be constructive.

Health and safety must be integrated into everything we do, so no injuries are acceptable beyond those readily treatable by Scout-rendered first aid. As an aid in the continuing effort to protect participants in a Scout activity, National Health and Safety Committee and the Council Services Division of the Scouting America National Council have developed the "Sweet Sixteen" of safety procedures for physical activity. These 16 points, which embody good judgment and common sense, apply to all activities.
